Landlord runs amok, orders tenant to torch herself He also set fire to his own flat and neighbour's
A MIDDLE-aged man, armed with four knives, ran amok and tried to force one of his woman tenants to torch herself in his flat at Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 on Thursday morning.
When the frightened woman managed to break free of him during the confusion with the help of two other woman tenants, the enraged landlord turned his fury on his neighbour's flat.
He smashed the window facing the corridor with his knives and hit the door. Next, he splashed white paint and kerosene on the neighbour's flat, and threatened to set fire to it if the girl inside did not come out.
The petrified girl called the police. Just then, her father showed up and took on the assailant. During the scuffle, he was chased and slashed, according to Shin Min Daily News on Thursday.
Just as shocked residents in Block 346 thought the drama was over, the man returned to his flat and set fire to it. He also torched his neighour's flat.
Police said they received a call at about 7.45 am about the incident and rushed to the scene.
They ordered the armed man to surrender his weapons and when he refused, they subdued him with a taser stun gun.
During the struggle to arrest the assailant, a policeman was injured. He suffered minor cuts on the face and a cut on his left eyebrow and was given outpatient treatment.
The fire in the two flats was put out by fire fighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force, who prevented it from spreading to other units.
A woman tenant told Shin Min that she was about to leave the flat when the landlord suddenly charged at her with a pole and ordered her to wake up the other two room-mates.
In the living room, he ordered the three woman to sit on a sofa, while he went to the kitchen to grab a chopper.
He then asked one of them to pour oil on her body and torch herself.
Her roommate was ordered by the man to open the front door for her to carry out the act on the common corridor. All three took the opportunity to escape.
Shin Min said the man had been hospitalised for three months and was discharged only last Saturday.
Neighbours said he is a bachelor but used to bring women back to the flat.
He rented out two rooms to the three women. yes..

it wasnt as simple as i thot.. but i was kinda late for work.. and so.. i waited for my mummy's news while i went for work..
and i saw one of my neighbours pushing his bike and told his mum.. "i pushed away 1st, scared tio summon.."
typical singaporean.. and is a young chap who's same age as me..
i was listening to 933 while working.. and they reported this news.. woo.. so it was so big case ah.. there was a person we suspected.. yet to be confirmed..
